Abstract

This article deals with an epistemic problematization for information science based on Jonathan Furner’s proposal of a veritistic turn for the field. Furner calls for the consideration of “truth” as a central concept to the field instead of “relevance”. In this text, his arguments – based on social epistemology and epistemic justice – are confronted with a set of questions relating to the contemporary phenomenon of post-truth. Elements raised by both discussions are analysed in the light of paradigms and “turns” already undergone by information science, to assess the relevance of a possible veritistic science in the area.
